Ousmane Dembele’s agent met with Xavi and Jordi Cruyff on Tuesday to discuss the winger’s future, according to Mundo Deportivo’s Edu Polo.
Edu Polo reports that the parties are looking for a solution, but it’s still looking difficult. Multiple reports suggest that the club has told Dembele “Leave now or renew, otherwise you’ll never play for Barcelona again”.
Ousmane Dembele’s agent, Moussa Sissoko landed in Barcelona around noon on Tuesday. He met with Xavi Hernandez and Jordi Cruyff that same evening. Director of Football Mateu Alemany was supposed to be present at the meeting, but Laporta’s right hand tested positive for Covid-19.
The aim of the meeting was to figure out Ousmane Dembele’s contract situation. Ousmane Dembele and his agent have both assured the club that they want to stay in Catalunya past this summer. However, the player appears to demand higher wages than the club is able to afford. The club’s position hasn’t changed. If the players doesn’t renew before the end of this week, the club will look to cash in before the market closes.
Figuring out the situation is crucial for the club to determine who they can sign this winter market. Worst case scenario for Barcelona is if they have a Dembele on an expiring contract when the transfer market closes. That means the player will be able to leave for free in the summer. Barcelona want to avoid at all cost. That means the club has five days left to resolve the case. Either renew or sell.
