The professionalization of women’s football has now become a reality as today, the directive committee of CSD made it official.
The promise that was made by the government few months ago has finally been completed as the professionalization of women’s football has been made official after the unanimity of the votes.
From next season the Primera Iberdrola will be renamed as Liga Ellas with 16 participating teams and its implementation will be under the supervision of CSD. The championship next season will be organized by the clubs under the close supervision of RFEF.
After this decision, the women’s football league has become the third professional sports league after the men’s football (First and Second division), and men’s basketball (ACB). It has also become the first women’s sports to gain professional status in Spain.
This step will surely open new avenues for the women’s football and it will also help the sports to grow.
