The uncertain future of Dani Rodríguez at Barcelona is intensified by Tottenham’s interest.
The future of Dani Rodríguez at Barcelona is far from clear. According to Toni Juanmarti of SPORT, the Barça youth academy player’s contract expires on June 30th, and the Catalan club increasingly fears that the Basque forward may decide to seek new horizons. Tottenham is very interested in acquiring his services and also has considerable financial potential, which, apart from an appealing sports project, could make a difference. Discussions between the player’s camp and Barcelona have already occurred, although a hypothetical renewal agreement is distant as of today. The management under Joan Laporta suspects that the London club is pulling out all the stops to take away one of the most promising academy players.
At just 18 years old, Dani Rodríguez has already played six games with the reserve team and is an international with the Spanish under-19 national team. Currently injured, the forward has also attracted interest from Athletic Club, as reported by ‘El Correo.’ In the coming weeks, more contacts are expected between his agent, Pini Zahavi, and FC Barcelona.
Barcelona and the player know that if only the economic aspect is considered, the Catalan club will never be able to compete with Tottenham, which is very interested in young talents. The ‘Spurs’ have recently signed Croatian Luka Vušković, 17, for nearly 13 million euros. The key, therefore, will lie in the sports plan that Barcelona can offer. It’s not straightforward because several players are emerging in the reserve team and the first team. The club will have to decide which players to prioritize, acknowledging that in some cases, a change of scenery may be the outcome.
