Barcelona have put their price tag on the French defender, Jean-Clair Todibo, and there are several English teams interested in acquiring his services.
Jean-Clair Todibo signed for Barcelona during the winter market in the 2018-19 season, coming from Toulouse. The symbolic fee was of one million euros with another two million euros in variables, according to the Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo.
The 20-year-old center-back left the Catalan club on loan just one year after his signing, due to the competition for a spot in Barcelona’s back line and the small amount of playing time he had.
He moved from Barcelona, through a loan deal, and headed to Germany, after an agreement was reached with Schalke 04. Todibo stood out, and even got crowned the Best Player of the Month, a club award that was given to him in February.
The Bundesliga team has a purchase clause for 25 million and they would like to execute it, however, economically, it is not a viable option. The Germans asked for another loan deal but it was ruled out by the Catalan club.
Although it seems that Todibo is now returning to Barcelona, the Catalan club needs income and leaves the Frenchman in a position to leave.
According to a report published by the Spanish news outlet, SPORT, Barcelona are in talks with Everton — one of the teams interested in signing the young central defender. The English club would pay Barça 20 million euros and another five million euros in variables, despite the club having a placed a 25 million euros price tag on him.
Without considering the good relationship that Barcelona and Everton have the Catalan club is, according to the same report, willing to sell the footballer to the highest bidder but with a buy-back clause – which seems almost impossible. There are also other Premier League teams that have asked the Catalans about Jean-Clair Todibo.
It seems likely that Todibo will move out of Barcelona, given the club’s personnel in the heart of defense. The centrals that Barcelona would have at their disposal, if he is the only one to leave, would be: Gerard Piqué, Clement Lenglet, Samuel Umtiti and Ronald Araujo from Barça B.
The young French defender’s contract with Barcelona runs out in 2023.
