Pau Cubarsi is expected to be called up by Spain for the next international break.
The Spanish Football Federation had planned Pau Cubarsí’s progression within its national team setup. However, according to Jordi Gil of SPORT, everything has changed dramatically with the emergence of the footballer at FC Barcelona. Initially, the intention was for Pau Cubarsí to make the leap to the under-21 team with an eye on the 2024 Paris Olympics. Skipping the under-19 level, where Héctor Fort and Marc Guiu currently feature, Cubarsí’s promotion directly from the under-17 to the under-21 squad was already significant.
Luis de la Fuente has included Cubarsí in the pre-list for the senior team’s friendlies against Colombia (22/3) in London and Brazil (26/3) at the Santiago Bernabéu. Barring a major surprise, the FC Barcelona defender will be included in the squad announced by the Riojan coach on Friday, boosting his chances of representing Spain at the 2024 European Championship to be held from June 14 to July 14 in Germany. The Federation considers the young center-back fully prepared to play under Luis de la Fuente both in terms of footballing ability and personal maturity.
