According to SPORT’s Toni Juanmartí, Barça will soon inform Samuel Umtiti that he absolutely has to leave the club. The Frenchman had requested minutes in the preseason to prove he has recovered, and the club honoured his request, but their stance has not changed: he cannot stay under any condition.
Samuel played a total of 90 minutes in the 3 preseason games, with a half each against Nastic & Girona respectively and no minutes against Stuttgart. He performed decently in these games, but his level was not sufficient to change the opinion of the coaching staff, who insist that the only possible option is Umtiti’s departure.
In the club, there is moderate optimism that Umtiti will accept this decision and leave, especially now that his knee is improving. They think that he will now be inclined to prove his skill at another club, instead of being resigned to staying at Barça to fulfill his lucrative contract. Umtiti has two interesting offers, according to SPORT, and it remains to be seen whether he’ll accept either of them.
