At the beginning of the season, Puig was told directly by Ronald Koeman would not be a regular in the team and he has kept his word. Now for next season Riqui will stay at Barcelona and not be placed on the transfer list.
FC Barcelona sees Puig as one of the most promising midfielders La Masía has produced in quite some time. However, this season hasn’t been the breakout many expected. After being promoted to the first team last Summer, many believed he would be a usual starter. But, just after Ronald Koeman arrived, he it very clear to everyone that he he would not be a regular. Riqui has only played four games as a starter, two in LaLiga and two Copa del Rey matches. In the last two months he has only been on the pitch for 21 minutes.
Luckily for Barcelona, the 21 year old still has two more years of contract and is favored by the new board, specially Laporta. Additionally, Riqui has not lost the drive to play for Barça. Every time he jumps on the field he looks intense and want to have the ball. A clear example was the semifinal of the Spanish Super Cup where he took the final penalty to seal the Barcelona’s victory. According to Mundo Deportivo, even if Ronald Koeman continues at Barcelona next season, Riqui will not be put on the transfer list.
