Pau Cubarsi reflects on his debut with the first team.
A young center-back shares the excitement of making his first start for FC Barcelona in the away victory against Betis. With Barcelona in need of a new centre-back, the solution was found within the club itself. Pau Cubarsí, who previously made his debut as a substitute against Unionistas de Salamanca in the cup, was given the opportunity to start in the league game against Betis. On the eve of his 17th birthday, he delivered an impressive performance during his 81 minutes on the field.
Reflecting on the experience in an interview with the club, Cubarsí expressed his joy, stating, “I’m very happy. This has been the best week of my life. It’s incredibly powerful to play for the Barça first team, especially as I have always been a Culer; this is a dream come true.” He recounted the moment he learned about the possibility of being in the starting lineup, sharing, “The day before in training, I found out I might be in the starting lineup, but it wasn’t confirmed until Xavi announced the team. I was so happy. Initially, I was very nervous, but as I gained confidence, I started to go with the flow and be myself.”
