Following the incident involving María Pilar León of FC Barcelona and Daniela Caracas of RCD Espanyol, we at Blaugranagram deem it necessary to make a statement.
Assault and discriminatory behavior has no place in society or football (soccer), regardless of the motive behind it.
To that end, accusations of such without proper evidence, or doing so with malicious intent or motive are equally serious.
Both clubs and by extension, players have made their official statements regarding said incident and the statements are contradictory. Espanyol availed the club’s legal services to Caracas and Mapi León stated that she is willing to engage legal help should she need to.
It is important to highlight that Espanyol’s statement does NOT refer to any discriminatory remarks but rather a ‘gesture’ that they feel violated Daniela Caracas’ privacy.
At Blaugranagram we reiterate that all forms of discrimination have NO place in sports and society. Respect, accountability and sportsmanship are fundamental values.
