Sources from Ajax exclusively confirm to Blaugranagram that Ajax have contacted Luis Suárez’ camp and Barcelona, with the Catalans uninterested in Donny van de Beek and Sergiño Dest.
Following the heavy defeat to Bayern Munich, knocking Barcelona out of the Champions League for the current season, the Catalan club is in the process of a wider restructuring of the team, having recently announced the dismissal of Quique Setién.
With the Cantabrian out of the picture, the Catalans are shifting their focus to the new manager, which, as confirmed by club president Josep Bartomeu Tuesday evening, will be Ronald Koeman, if everything goes according to plan.
With regards to the squad, several changes could be on the cards.
As for Sergi Roberto and Sergio Busquets, the player’s agent, Josep Maria Orobitg, confirmed to Cadena COPE on Tuesday evening that the pair are not expected to leave the Camp Nou this summer. Orobitg added that the club has not told them of any intentions of letting go of two midfielders that rose up through the famed La Masía academy.
Luis Suárez’ situation is a different one. The Uruguayan forward is 33 years of age, with his statistics somewhat deterring over the years. Antoine Griezmann was brought in, and on paper seemed a potential replacement for the Uruguayan, even as a stop-gap solution.
Now, Suárez could be on his way out, and potentially back to Ajax whom he represented between 2011 and 2014 before his Liverpool switch.
Sources from Ajax have confirmed to Blaugranagram that the Dutch club indeed has shown interest in acquiring the forward once again.
Contacts have taken place between Ajax and FC Barcelona as well as between the Dutch club and Suárez’ agents. However, no concrete negotiations are underway yet, although those could happen should the interest materialize.
Moreover, there have been rumors surrounding Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek and American full-back Sergiño Dest being on Barcelona’s radar. Sources from Ajax tell Blaugranagram that the Catalan club is yet to show interest in acquiring any of the two for the current transfer window.
