NBA Legend Steve Nash recently gave an exclusive interview to Flashscore, in which he analyzed the impact Messi has had on the MLS since his arrival at Inter Miami. Despite being a fan of the Vancouver Whitecaps, the Canadian basketball icon is not shy about praising Leo Messi: “This kid is incredible. To me, the best player ever.”

Nash continues speaking about the level the Barça legend has shown in the US: “He keeps scoring a million goals and making highlights, and he’s brought incredible attention to MLS. It’s a credit to the league to have the best player of all time in your league and still scoring goals, right after a World Cup.”

Two-time NBA Regular Season MVP Steve Nash is a known football fan and is a Whitecaps, Mallorca, and Tottenham Hotspur (his dad’s favorite team) shareholder. He recalls his emotions when the Spurs defeated Ajax in the Champions League semifinals a few years ago, “I definitely cried on TV in America when Spurs beat Ajax in the Champions League semi-final, which was embarrassing . I think at the time – I don’t know if you remember the game – Lucas Moura scored a hat-trick to come from behind and win in Amsterdam. And, you know, the dramatic nature of it, honestly, I love it; I love my club, but I never really thought I’d see Spurs in a Champions League final.”

As for that investment in Mallorca, Nash explains why he went for it. “The Phoenix Suns ownership group was looking to buy a team in Europe. I, you know, pulled out. I think they had looked around the UK but they realised that even Championship teams are really expensive, with a lot of risk, you’re going to pay a lot of losses every year until you get to the Premier League. So you have to make a capital outlay that’s much bigger than the price of the club. They then changed their focus to Spain, looked at a few teams and it ended up being Mallorca . What an amazing journey, it’s a beautiful club with over 100 years of history, with a unique culture in the Balearic Islands, beautiful place. For us, getting to know the culture, the history, the tradition, the club, the area, it’s been a very special place and a very fortunate journey. And then, you know, the success has been great. But the feeling and the bond with the area and the history of the club has been extraordinary.”
