Barcelona showing interest in Morten Hjulmand.
Morten Hjulmand is the latest midfielder to join the long list of contenders to join FC Barcelona ahead of the next season. This is according to the Danish press, which asserts that the Blaugrana club holds numerous reports on one of Sporting Portugal’s key players. Hjulmand arrived this season at Sporting Portugal from Lecce. He was one of the major acquisitions of the team led by Rubén Amorim, a coach who has also been linked to Barça following Xavi Hernández’s announced departure at the end of the current season.
The Danish player is a midfielder capable of playing in the central axis of the midfield. His progression has been remarkable throughout the season, and the Tipsbladet newspaper highlights that Barça has him in their sights for the future.
The Danish outlet also corroborates the news with statements from journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, who confirms Deco’s interest. “Barcelona is looking at him. Tottenham was previously linked with him, but they are no longer interested. Barcelona, on the other hand, is definitely interested in him. I think he is ready to take the next step in his career. He played very well at Lecce and is doing well at Sporting now too. He is a really good player,” he concludes. Deco’s frequent presence in Portugal and his deep knowledge of Portuguese football led to rumors a few weeks ago that Rubén Amorim, Sporting Portugal’s coach, was one of the preferred candidates by Barça’s sporting director to succeed Xavi Hernández.
Deco himself had to step in to address these rumors and dismissed Amorim as a candidate for the Barça bench.
