Luis de la Fuente discussed Gavi’s injury and praised Lamine Yamal’s commitment to the team during an informational meeting.
Luis de la Fuente attended an informational meeting between the EFE agency and the UAX Rafa Nadal School of Sport, during which the national team coach spoke about Gavi’s injury and praised Lamine Yamal’s commitment to the team.
Gavi suffered a complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament and an associated injury to the lateral meniscus of his right knee during the match between Spain and Georgia on November 19, 2023. “I stay in touch with injured players because it’s the toughest and ugliest part of sports. It’s that moment when you need support and closeness. When someone is injured, people seem to forget about them,” said the coach, adding, “Gavi is endearing, a good person, and is very beloved by the federation’s staff. I have a relationship with him like with all those who have been injured. I wish him the best and a speedy recovery. First for him and then because we need him.”
De la Fuente also highlighted Lamine Yamal’s commitment to the team, stating, “He is determined to play with us, as he demonstrates in every game. It should be a source of pride to be on the team. We must appreciate the privilege of being on the national team, knowing how difficult it is, aware that many good footballers are left out. Knowing this situation, coming here should be a source of pride. You reach the peak as a professional.”
