Prior to FC Barcelona Femení’s derby match against Espanyol Femenino at the Camp Nou, coach Lluís Cortés, and midfielder, Alexia Putellas, spoke to the press today.
Lluís Cortés :
On playing in Camp Nou –
“It is a prize, a very nice gift especially for the players. Surely they have spent many hours seeing their referents of the men’s team in this stadium. It’s a shame that it’s without an audience.”
On the affect of changing of playing field –
“On an emotional level it could affect playing in such an environment, but we focus on competing to the fullest. And being a derby it won’t be easy.”
On tomorrow’s oposition –
“It is an extra motivation for them as well. It’s a derby, and we know what it means. This year they are a different team. They have managed to feel themselves and are doing a good job.”
On Femení team being recognized –
“The team has grown a lot in professionalization, with a solid and convincing project to be a big team in Europe. It was something that was coming.”
Alexia Putellas :
On playing in Camp Nou –
“We have played in great stadiums, but emotionally it is different. Since I was little I have gone to see my team. I remember when I took the bus from the Penya Barcelonista de Mollet to come to the Camp Nou. I never imagined playing there, but everything evolves and everything grows. After 50 years, women’s football is back at the Camp Nou and I’m sure it won’t be the last time.”
On the difference in playing at Camp Nou –
“The big difference will be before and after the game. Through the locker room, the tunnel when going out onto the pitch, but once the game starts, you’re not aware of whether there are more or less stands.”
