Studies show that New Years Resolutions tend to be broken within a few weeks of the year. Fortunately, for Barcelona Femení, at the end of January, the prospect of going unbeaten has kept the winners flag flying high. After a riveting semi-final bout with Madrid’s Atletico on Wednesday, January 22nd, the 3-0 result showered a sweeping victory to launch Barcelona into the final of the domestic Supercopa de España, or Spanish Supercup. With two goals scored by 23-year-old Claudia Pina and one goal scored by Norwegian veteran Caroline Graham Hansen, a smooth sailing Femení super team continue to showoff. Barcelona will now face either Real Madrid or Real Sociedad in the Supercopa de España final, determined by whoever secures success between the “Reals”.

When not on the hunt for more silverware, Barça Femení are protecting their eleven point lead on the Liga F table, with 16 wins, 0 draws and 0 losses. An extremely impressive feat, considering 15 remaining teams in Liga F have lost at least one or more matches. Currently, Barcelona’s own Ewa Pajor (pictured below) leads the league in goals at 14, while captain Alexia Putellas trails at 9 goals. Femení are on fire, and to not lose the flame, will resume league play on February 1st vs Levante.

While head coach Pere Romeu is building a lasting legacy while completing his first full year under the helm of Barcelona Femení, the ultimate goal for players, coaches, fans, friends, and family alike is to win a third consecutive UEFA Women’s Champions League. The difference between the Champions League compared to other competitions is its inclusion of the best clubs from other European leagues, such as England’s Barclays WSL or Germany’s Frauen Bundesliga. The competition is a clash of titans for both the men’s and women’s sides; While Barcelona Femení have most recently won in 2023 and 2024, the men’s side have not reached the top of that mountain since 2015. Femení have already qualified for the quarter-finals with victories over Austria’s St. Polten, England’s Manchester City and Sweden’s Hammarby. The next step is to wait and see what the match draw brings. In the meantime, the world will be watching the best team in the world, Barcelona Femení.
