Ronald Koeman has admitted that both the club and the player are still hoping that a transfer happens on deadline day.
The FC Barcelona manager spoke about making the deal happen to Dutch news outlet NOS: “We would like to (make it happen), and the same goes for Memphis himself.”
Koeman said the following about the complications of the transfer: “Due to the financial situation at the club, especially due to the control of the Spanish federation, it is clear that we must get rid of a player before signing a new one. This is the case with the Memphis deal.”
When asked about why he wants to sign Memphis: “He is an outstanding attacker. He can play both up front and on the wings, especially on the left. He has a lot of power, he is a player that knows how to keep possession, wins his duels and has a high return in terms of goalscoring.”
Koeman also spoke on signing players that have been part of his previous teams: “It is always the case that when you have already worked with a player in a good way, and you know this player very well and have a good connection, it could work here (at Barça) as well.”
Only a few hours remain for deals to happen, as the La Liga transfer window closes at 23:59 CEST tonight (October fifth).
