FC Barcelona are trying their best to convince Lionel Messi to stay at the club, but according to ESPN, there are some board members who are willing to listen to offers for the Argentine.
After the 8-2 debacle in Lisbon last week, the Catalan club has been working hard to turn over this situation. Ronald Koeman was appointed as the manager of the club and before the season kick starts next month, he has a bigger task to handle, to convince Lionel Messi to stay.
Koeman has publicly announced that he wants to build the team around Messi but the Argentine’s own doubts about his future at Barça have generated a tense situation within the club. The club wants to keep their captain for the upcoming season, but there are some board members who are willing to listen to offers which would allow Koeman to reconstruct the team as well as to reduce the wage bill of the club.
Lionel Messi is getting frustrated by the team’s performances for the last few seasons and this year the fans have even witnessed an off-field row with the former sporting director Eric Abidal.
According to RAC1, in the meeting between Messi and Koeman, the 33-year-old has told the new coach that he sees himself more outside of the club than in and has doubts over the new sporting project under Koeman which includes potential exits of some of the big names from the locker room.
