This year’s Joan Gamper will feature two matches between Barcelona and Juventus, women and men’s teams, as well as the return of fans to the Camp Nou.
On its 56th edition of the friendly trophy, Joan Gamper, Barça will face Juventus on August 8 at the Camp Nou. However, there will be one big difference from previous events. This time, both women and men team will face each other in back to back matches. The reigning champions of Europe will kickoff at 6.00pm CEST and Koeman’s team will be doing likewise at 9.30pm CEST.
Additionally, fans will be back at the Camp Nou for these games, for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic. Only 20% of the Camp Nou will be occupied but that will allow for a maximum attendance of 19,869 fans.
This is not the first time Barcelona and Juventus face off at the Gamper. Last time the Italian team played the match they won in penalties after a 2-2 draw. However, the star of the match was a youngster Lionel Messi, who caught the eye of then Juventus manager Fabio Capello. After twenty minutes, Capello went over to Frank Rijkaard and asked for Messi on loan and the rest is history.
