Despite a disappointing defeat to Milan on penalties, Hansi Flick believes the team’s midfield is stacked as is.
Barcelona played their last game of the US tour Tuesday night, as they faced off against AC Milan. Milan struck first with two goals, one by ex-Real Madrid man Luka Jovic, one by Christian Pulisic. This was followed up by a brace by Robert Lewandowski, with the first goal set up by Raphinha, and the other by Pau Víctor, who continues to impress.
And once again, Marc Bernal and his namesake Casadó impressed. With Fermín Lopez coming back, as well as Pedri and Gavi at Flick’s disposal, the head coach believes the midfield might be good enough already. Add to this the recent signing of Dani Olmo who reportedly is seen as a ’10’ by Flick, and, at the very least in an attacking sense, the midfield appears stacked.
“We have a couple of quality midfielders injured, and I think we’ve got enough effective players in that position,” Hansi Flick told the Spanish press after the game. He also had heaps of praise for the youngsters who have come to the fore.
“We have 16-year-old players who performed exceptionally well. There are players who have really gotten a lot better over the last several days,” Flick confirmed to the club’s official website.
In pre-season, Hansi Flick’s men have played 4 games: Manchester City (2-2, then won 4-1 on penalties), El Clásico (2-1 win), and Milan (2-2, then lost 4-3 on penalties). Next up is Monaco in the Joan Gamper trophy, and the players have already made their way out of Baltimore. They are expected to arrive in Barcelona Wednesday around noon, as the plane has already taken off.
