Barcelona requests Ferran Torres to remain for recovery and miss Spain’s upcoming friendlies.

Ferran Torres is one of Luis de la Fuente’s fixed players because he knows him very well from the youth teams. As soon as the player from Foios regained prominence at Barça, the coach didn’t hesitate to take him with the national team as well. According to Ferran Martinez of Mundo Deportivo, however for this upcoming March call-up, FC Barcelona has requested that the Valencian player stay in the Catalan capital to finish recovering from his muscle injury.

De la Fuente will announce the squad on Friday, and Ferran will still be out of action after damaging his hamstring on January 31. In fact, it is planned that the same day the call-up is made public, will be the first training session for the Barça forward with the team. And if everything progresses well, he would be cleared to play in the league match against Atlético Madrid on Sunday.

It is not expected that Ferran Torres will start against Atlético Madrid. At most, he will have some minutes because he needs to gradually gain rhythm and recover his full fitness. He would arrive at the Metropolitano with only two training sessions with his teammates. Physically he will be fine, but he will lack rhythm, and there is no need to take risks after a muscle injury.

That’s why in the face of Spain’s two friendlies against Colombia in London and Brazil at the Santiago Bernabéu, where La Roja has nothing at stake, it is normal for De la Fuente to give Ferran Torres a rest so he can fully recover in Barcelona. This absence is justified because the Valencian has already convinced the coach with his recent performances.

He returned with the national team in September and has been a regular. In the last three Euro 2024 qualifying call-ups, Torres played 5 matches and contributed 3 goals and an assist.
