Sources exclusively confirm to Blaugranagram that Barcelona Femení forward Mariona Caldentey has her heart set on Arsenal in the WSL, despite interest from elsewhere.
Following her staggering success this season with the women’s side, and about a decade of football in Catalonia, Mariona Caldentey is set on moving on.
Growing up in the Balearic Islands, she joined the Catalans in the 2014/15 season. She, however, didn’t get off to a good start, as she suffered a serious knee injury towards the end of the season. She did bounce back, and has since grown in prominence under Jonatan Giráldez’ tenure at the club. She also most recently won the women’s World Cup with her native Spain, and over the weekend added yet another trophy for the Women’s Champions League to her cabinet.
And now, things are about to change for Barcelona. The first team has seen its fair share of changes with Xavi leaving, Femení sees its changes with Giráldez amongst others leaving, and now Mariona is said to be on her way out, too.
Sources have confirmed to Blaugranagram that the 28-year old swiss army knife has her heart set on playing in the WSL for the upcoming season, with Arsenal as her preferred destination. Given her fine form this season, with 18 direct goal contributions in 27 league matches, sources tell Blaugranagram that she also attracted interest from elsewhere in Europe, with ‘a big German club’ interested in her services. She has previously been rumored to join Giráldez in the US, too.
She however prefers Arsenal, and although nothing has been signed yet, it seems only a matter of time.
Her contract runs out in the summer, and she will be a free agent come the end of June.
