Brazilian right-back Emerson Royal, who was recently signed back from Betis by FC Barcelona, could be on his way to Inter Milan, as they look for a possible replacement for Achraf Hakimi.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio and Mundo Deportivo, Inter have recently shown great interest in Emerson Royal. The Brazilian right-back, born in ’99, is a name that the Nerazzurri club really likes, and have identified him as a substitute for Hakimi, if the Moroccan were to leave.
The representatives of Emerson Royal have met this Thursday with Inter Milan to discuss the possible transfer of the right-back. At the meeting, which Barça would have been aware of, the amount of the transfer and the contract proposal was discussed.
Although Barça announced him as the third signing of the 2021-2022 season and the player has shown his willingness to dress as a Barça player, Emerson is one of the defenders with the best bill in Europe and at the Camp Nou they need to make sales to adjust their finances. The former Betis player is an asset that can be transferred between 22 and 25 million euros, which is what the Barça club would be demanding, despite the fact that he showed his intention to extend the contract for two more years of the three that remain in force, extending the link until 2026.
Inter Milan, the Italian league champions, have always been very attentive to Emerson’s future and have set their eyes on him as a replacement for Achraf Hakimi, who’s almost on the verge of leaving for PSG. The French team could also bid directly for him. In the ‘nerazzuro’ box they see in Emerson Royal the profile of a defender with projection and he seems to fulfill their criteria.
Emerson Royal, has worn the Betis shirt in the last two and a half seasons. Full-back with excellent offensive skills, Emerson made 79 appearances with Betis, scoring 5 goals and providing 10 assists.
On June 2, the official statement from FC Barcelona was made where they announced that they were exercising their right to bring Emerson Royal back from Betis, where he had played on loan for the last two seasons, for an amount of 9 million euros, but Emerson seems set for a new adventure in Italy.
According to Javi Miguel, in the case of closing the operation this summer, Betis would take 50% of the transfer. From the following summer it would be 20%. It does not seem like a very viable business for Barcelona.
