Emerson is set to stay at Betis for another year as Barça evaluate their options in the transfer market and track his progress.
Barcelona’s young right-back Emerson, who’s currently out on loan at Real Betis, has been impressive all season long. So much so that there has been some serious interest in him from abroad.
However, according to a recent report from Mundo Deportivo, even though they are well aware of his progress, Emerson is set to stay at Betis for another year and develop further before eventually making a grand return to the Camp Nou.
The same report also states that the Catalans do have a clause in the contract that would enable them to recall the player from loan earlier than planned, and essentially buy him out, but that would cost them additional six to nine million euros.
Still, they are also well aware of the fact that the market for quality right-backs is currently quite limited and for that reason, Emerson is an interesting prospect for them further down the road.
Mundo Deportivo go on to say that Barcelona are also not planning to include the young defender in any kind of deals, such as the deal to bring Inter’s Lautaro Martínez, as they see him as a potential medium-term option for their squad.
The only way Barça would actually part ways with the right-back is if they suddenly received a golden offer that would be impossible to turn down but given all the current circumstances in the outside world, that is still an unlikely scenario.
Emerson has been excellent for Real Betis throughout the season, assisting five goals and even scoring further three himself, showing that he’s slowly but surely growing into a player who could one day don the colours of Barcelona.
