Following weeks of intensive negotiations and offers, Dani Olmo will fly to Barcelona with Deco tonight to finalize the move.
Dani Olmo will sign a 6-year contract with Barcelona, and the player is said to be ecstatic over the move. Having plied his trade in Croatia, then Germany, now the time has come to return to Catalonia, where it all started for the La Masía graduate.
Barcelona and RB Leipzig have been negotiating intensively for the last couple of weeks, with the Germans unhappy with what Barcelona were offering. The Catalans had to dig deep, and perhaps with the Libero money compensated for through an unnamed club sponsor, this deal seemed more feasible and they were able to match Leipzig’s demands.
Although the deal seemed to be off, Barcelona went on the all-offensive and sent Deco to Leipzig to try and finalize a deal. They succeeded and reached a verbal agreement with Leipzig reps on top of the agreement already reached with Olmo’s representatives.
Ultimately, the deal consists of 55 million euros fixed, and 7 million euros in variables, according to multiple reports.
The Catalan club then worked on getting him booked on a private flight to Barcelona, in order to finalize the signing, and he is expected to land in Catalonia tonight, with Deco and Dani’s own agents. The midfielder is expected to undergo his medical tests either Wednesday or Thursday. He will sign a contract keeping him with the Catalans until 2030, as previously reported, although a 5+1 setup could be a reality, with the last year being optional and triggerable by both parties.
Joan Laporta, when confronted by journalists, refused to comment further on the matter.
The deal being done raised question marks around Nico Williams, who earlier today, as Blaugranagram reported, retreated to Lazama, Athletic Club’s training facilities. Moreover, he posted a video on the club’s page expressing his excitement for the season to come with the club with whom he’s contracted until 2027.
Reports suggest that Nico hasn’t been forgotten about in Catalonia and that they still consider it an open case as they keep the door open for further negotiations with Athletic Club.
At this year’s edition of the EUROs, Dani Olmo had 3 goals and 2 assists in 6 games.
