Long-time Barcelona target Dani Olmo has agreed to a 6-year deal with the Catalan side, per multiple reports.

In the midst of the Nico Williams storm, Barcelona have sealed a deal with Dani Olmo, a midfielder who has been on the Catalan radar for quite some time now.

Coming off the back of an impressive showing in the EUROs, with an exhibition of absolute skill and composure, Olmo feels it’s time to move on from the Bundesliga and has said yes to playing in LaLiga for the first time in his career.

Having grown up in Catalonia, he started off in Espanyol‘s youth ranks, before being picked up by Barcelona in 2007. He moved up the ranks before getting to the U18s, where he then left to join Dinamo Zagreb‘s reserve outfit in 2014. A year later, he became a first teamer and spent 5 years before moving on to Leipzig.

After 4 years in Germany, the 26-year-old feels another change of scenery is in the cards, and has prioritized a homecoming to his boyhood club Barcelona ahead of the other clubs interested in him.

Barcelona and Leipzig have been in talks for some time now, with last week and this week especially having brought out positive talks between all parties involved. Thursday morning, Olmo was reportedly ready to accept Barcelona‘s offer, and in the afternoon, per multiple reports, has now said yes.

Having sent two offers now, including the latest one this Thursday, Barcelona’s latest one included a set transfer sum of about 50 million euros, and about 15 million euros in add-ons. The latest offer is expected to be rejected by Leipzig, but Barcelona are yet to give up on the case and believe they will reach an agreement with the club. Some reports have mentioned the offer having been for 55 million euros as the fixed sum and 7 million euros in add-ons.

In any case, for Dani himself, the club has offered a 6-year deal, which he has agreed to.

The midfielder’s current deal with Leipzig runs out in 2027, with his last contract extension having taken place at the turn of the year in 2023.
