Andreas Christensen to be fit for midweek Copa Del Rey match.
According to Jordi Batalla of Mundo Deportivo, the Danish centre-back, experiencing some discomfort, opted not to join the Seville trip to face Real Betis. However, he is expected to be at Xavi’s disposal for the Copa del Rey quarter-final clash against Athletic Club.
Andreas Christensen, 27, was not part of the Barcelona delegation to Seville and won’t be featuring against Betis. His absence poses a significant setback for the upcoming Copa del Rey encounter with Athletic Club on Wednesday, January 24.
Following a halftime request for substitution in Unionistas de Salamanca, Christensen continued to experience minor discomfort. The coaching staff deemed it prudent for him to stay in Barcelona to ensure complete recovery and enable him to be in peak condition for the Bilbao match.
Notably, the club has not released any official medical statement regarding Christensen’s physical condition, emphasizing that the Danish player is free from injuries, and his exclusion was purely precautionary.
It’s worth mentioning that Andreas Christensen has been a consistent presence in all squad selections this season, and this Sunday marks the end of his streak of 23 consecutive games as an available player.
