Carles Aleñá will be playing in Madrid until the end of the season. Getafe will cover his full salary during his loan spell.
Barcelona’s first piece of business in the January transfer window is loaning out Carles Aleñá to Getafe. The Madrid club will not have a buy-option on the player, who will therefore return to the club come the end of the season. Getafe will also pay his entire salary.
With Barcelona’s current economic situation, every cent counts, and saving Aleñá’s reported salary of 400 000 euros won’t hurt.
Aleñá hasn’t managed to establish himself under Ronald Koeman, so Barcelona will be betting on Getafe giving him more of a chance to show what he can do. The midfielder has only played 46 minutes in the league for Barcelona this season. His only 90 minuter came away against Dynamo Kyiv in the Champions League, a game Barcelona won 4-0. The club have therefore deemed that the best option is for him to leave on loan.
Barcelona will want this loan spell to be more successful than his last one. In January 2020, Aleñá joined Real Betis on loan, but the midfielder never managed to fully impress Rubi, the Betis coach at the time.
At Getafe, Aleñá will be joining up with former Barça B player Marc Cucurella. Getafe currently sit 16th in the table, which they won’t be happy with after last seasons 8th placed finish.
