Barcelona is considering Amadou Onana to strengthen their midfield, but the 60 million euro price tag presents a financial challenge.
One of the names being considered by Barcelona to bolster the defensive midfield position is Amadou Onana from Everton. According to Toni Juanmarti of SPORT, the major issue for the Catalan club is that the player is valued at 60 million euros, a sum that Barcelona will find it very difficult to afford. Faced with this scenario, one of the options the Blaugrana will explore is including a player in the deal.
There are several candidates for this. Everton values the Senegalese midfielder at 60 million euros, an amount that English teams like Arsenal, who are also interested in the player, might be willing to pay. In the event of relegation, Onana could be available for around 40 million euros, which is still a demanding price given Barcelona’s current financial situation. Over the coming months, under the leadership of Joan Laporta, the club will seek ways to remain competitive in the market without having to sell off any key assets.
Despite the priority for the Toffees being cash influx from any sale, Barcelona will aim to reduce the cost of a potential deal by including players. Names like Lenglet, Sergiño Dest, Ansu Fati, or Fermín could be of interest to the Liverpool-based club. In the case of the French center-back, if Everton ultimately sells Jarrad Branthwaite, a left-sided center-back for whom they already have significant offers, such a move would make sense; however, it remains to be seen if the international player is willing to join the Toffees’ project.
As for the other three players, Dest has attracted interest from many clubs following his excellent season at PSV, while Ansu is expected to seek another loan spell initially. The scenario for Fermín seems even less likely, as the intentions of the Huelva native are to remain at Barcelona, where he is gradually increasing his reputation. Onana’s circle is aware that he is highly regarded by Barcelona’s sporting department, hence the player considering a move to the Catalan club as one of his priorities. The midfielder is excited about the possibility of wearing the Blaugrana jersey and will wait for Barcelona’s decision for as long as possible. However, if Barcelona does not have any room for maneuver, Amadou will begin to consider other options.
