Amid speculation surrounding his future at the club, Barça have reportedly ruled out a loan deal for Riqui Puig.
Despite having an impressive breakout season under Quique Setién, Riqui Puig has only played few minutes under the management of Ronald Koeman. Puig wasn’t seen as an important part of his plans by Koeman and was advised to go out on loan for the season. The youngster opted to stay and fight for his place at Barça but things haven’t gone his way since then. He hasn’t enjoyed much playing time this season and hasn’t managed to change the coach’s mindset about him.
There have been a lot of reports and rumours about his future throughout the season most of which suggested he could be heading out on loan to another club in January as a result of not getting enough minutes at Barça. However, the latest reports suggest otherwise.
Matteo Moretto reports that Barça are not planning to loan out Riqui Puig in January. Also, Barça doesn’t plan on letting him leave as a free agent and his contract will be extended until June 2023 with the clause in his contract set to be triggered by the club. The player would be hoping for better treatment under the new deal.
With the presidential elections around the corner, the speculation of a new manager under the upcoming elected president has also grown. The fans would be wishing the best for the team in the upcoming new era and that would definitely include seeing more of the La Masia talent in action.
