Barcelona targeting Julian Araujo’s return and Sergino Dest’s sale.
Barça’s economy won’t allow major operations next summer, so the sporting management must maximize resources to build a solid squad. According to Ivan San Antonio of SPORT, Deco is mindful of financial constraints and focuses on two strategies: players whose contracts expire on June 30 and bringing back loaned players. Besides individual performance, positions needing reinforcement are considered. One such area is right-back, where Barça relies solely on Joao Cancelo, on loan from Manchester City, whose future is uncertain. Negotiations with City are inevitable to secure Cancelo or seek alternatives.
The club has two loaned right-backs, Dest and Julián Araujo, excelling at PSV and UD Las Palmas, respectively, warranting consideration for next season’s squad. However, approaches for each differ. Selling Sergiño is preferred due to his higher wage, with PSV keen on exercising their purchase option at a reduced price.
Negotiations are ongoing. Conversely, plans for Julián Araujo involve Barça, who monitored him at Las Palmas. The Mexican’s growth under García Pimienta and top-flight experience demonstrates his potential for Barça. Coordination with the future coach is vital, but sporting management intends Araujo, who turns 23 in August, to join the first team next season.
