Late Sub Nils Mortimer leads Barça B to a win with thunderous strike
It started off slow. A trend that has defined this season. Or so we thought.
For six minutes, UCAM Murcia were the hotter team. They came out with purpose and hunger. Then Ez Abde put an end to it in the only way he could.
With a brilliant piece of individual brilliance from the left flank. Getting around one defender, sending another one flying off the pitch with a fake shot and finally finishing off the move with a strike into the far corner.
Barça B were now up 1-0 6’ minutes into the game. Against the run of play for the time being, but that wouldn’t be the case for rest of the way.
What had been an unbearable first six minutes to watch, had seemed like a distant memory up until the hydration break. Barça B had seized control of the match and were living in the opposing half. Not much danger was created but their game plan was being executed.
Barça B was closer to a second than UCAM Murcia was to a first.
After the hydration break, which occurred at the 30’ minute mark, the game begun to intensify.
Immediately after the break UCAM Murcia would get their best chance of the half with a counter attack that saw a shot from the left flank go just wide. A tough angle, but one that brought legitimate danger to Barça B’s lead.
Barça B wouldn’t completely seize control but UCAM Murcia went into the half being the better team for those last 10 minutes, showing that they weren’t ready to lay down and accept defeat.
An Interesting End to a slow second half
The second half would play out just like the first half would. A slow start, one that bring much excitement.
Our first bit of excitement would come when Antonio Aranda’s 55’ minute shot would hit the post.
Other than that not much would happen until the last five minutes of the game. Shots were flying off but nothing too dangerous. Alex Ruiz would be called into action once and he did well to hold his ground.
Barça B seemed to be coasting towards a win, although it was 1-0 it did seem secured. But Gabri Jimeno had other plans. It was the 88’ minute when he decided to spoil the Blaugrana’s end of season win.
A theme that surrounded this Barça B was resilience. Late winners that seemingly came out of no where all season long and that wouldn’t be any different today.
From outside the box, Nils Mortimer, a late sub, would find the back of the net and give Barça B the lead back just a minute after Jimeno drew UCAM Murcia level.
A fitting end to the season for Barça B.
