Amid the on-going talks between Barcelona and Juventus, Barcelona’s midfielder, Arthur Melo, wants to stay with the Catalan club.
Barcelona are looking to balance the books and take advantage of the price deflation that the pandemic undoubtedly will have on the summer transfer market.
In an attempt to do that, the Catalans have had several talks with the Italian side Juventus, with Sergi Roberto’s name on the table, as a squad overhaul could take place in the summer. Additionally, reports from Spain suggest that there have been contacts over the 23-year-old Arthur Melo, too.
According to COPE, the Catalans have had talks with Juventus over the Brazilian, with the Italians offering to include their 30-year-old experienced midfielder, Miralem Pjanic, in a swap deal. However, the midfielder is set on staying, and undergoes special work with a fitness coach to help him regain a starting spot on the pitch under newly-appointed manager Quique Setién.
Arthur signed with Barcelona from Gremio for 31 million euros and an additional 9 million euros in variables in the summer of 2018, and has since had 67 appearances, scored four goals and set up six.
Arthur’s contract with Barcelona runs out in 2024.
