Barcelona’s man between the sticks will be having a voluntary medical intervention on Tuesday, and on Monday evening, the shot-stopper sent an open letter to his supporters.
In Barcelona, drastic changes are happening. Following the dismissal of first team manager Quique Setién and his staff, as announced by the club Monday afternoon, a wider restructuring of the first team will take place in the coming days. A new manager is expected to be announced in the coming days.
With regards to the players, several changes could take place soon, with Philippe Coutinho, currently on loan with Bayern Munich, potentially making a return to the Camp Nou in Blaugrana colors.
In the other end of the pitch, between the sticks, Marc-André ter Stegen will undergo a ‘voluntary medical intervention’ this coming Tuesday, to get rid of the tendon problems that he has endured during the season, as advised by the club’s medical staff. The intervention on his right partellar tendon will be conducted by the club’s medical expert, Dr. Ramon Cugat.
This was announced by the club and confirmed by the player Monday afternoon, and Monday evening, respectively.
The German goalkeeper has since posted an open letter to his supporters, further shedding light onto the situation and explaining where he stands.
“The medical experts and me discussed doing this ‘clean-up’ as there were some irritations earlier this season. It is a proactive intervention in order to prevent and prepare for the future,” ter Stegen announced on his social media channels.
The German also highlighted that he ‘will need some weeks to recover’ and return to full fitness.
“I am calm and positive about the situation, I will come back soon. Once again, thanks for all the support I’ve been receiving. I appreciate it a lot,” the goalkeeper added.
The German was signed from Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2014 for 12 million euros, and had his contract with the Catalans renewed in 2017. His current contract runs out in 2022.
