After the heavy defeat against Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Friday, FC Barcelona is expected to make big changes in the squad.
Players like Frenkie de Jong and Gerard Piqué spoke to the media after the defeat about how the team desperately needs some changes. According to Mundo Deportivo, all the players of the squad are transferable with exceptions like Ter Stegen, Messi, Frenkie de Jong, the new signings, and the youngsters like Puig and Fati. The rest of the squad are free to leave if a good offer comes in. The club is also ready to terminate the contracts of the players who have one or two years left.
According to sources from the club, players like Suárez have been told that they can look for an exit. He (Suárez) has a contract till 2021 which will be renewed by one year automatically if he plays 60% of the matches next season. His departure will be covered by the signing of Lautaro, who is still on the club’s radar. But it will only happen if enough budget is available. Umtiti is another player who has been told to leave, not only because of his injuries and poor performances but also because of his disappointing behavior, the same goes for Dembélé.
On the other hand, Rakitic was told a long time ago that he should start looking for a new club, Sevilla being his preferred choice, but the Andalusian club is unable to afford his price and salary due to the ongoing economic crisis.
The transfer of Jordi Alba, who is another heavyweight in the dressing room, will be a bit tricky. Barça knows that the player is underperforming and can no longer be considered as a starter. Although he has a contract until 2024, the club will look for a transfer.
Antoine Griezmann, Sergi Roberto, Semedo, and Arturo Vidal are also being mentioned as transferable players. It will be interesting to see how the transfer window is handled and what decisions the Barcelona board will take.
