Barcelona’s new and only signing this transfer window had his dream debut, as he scored the winning goal against Rayo Vallecano.
The 26-year-old midfielder joined from RB Leipzig and has been waiting for his registration papers to be accepted by LaLiga. Due to Barcelona’s financial woes, the Terrassa-born midfielder was not able to feature in Barcelona’s first two games, but was finally registered with LaLiga as was confirmed merely hours prior to Barcelona’s encounter at the Vallecas.
With Barcelona falling behind early due to a goal by midfielder Unai López, Hansi Flick felt changes were necessary ahead of the second half, and took off starter Ferran Torres to replace him with Barcelona’s homecoming signing.
Dani Olmo instantly helped change the team’s dynamic and looked right at home. After multiple good plays and dangerous looking attacks, Olmo was finally able to strike the winning goal for his new side, set-up by national team teammate Lamine Yamal.
The goal came not too long after Robert Lewandowski’s supposed winner was ruled out due to a soft called foul on Jules Koundé during the run of play.
Olmo’s goal kicked Barcelona to the top of the table, in solitude, merely three matchdays in.
