Atlético Madrid considers pursuing Robert Lewandowski this summer.
The summer transfer window is approaching, and clubs must begin to outline their objectives for reinforcing their squads, with economic availability tied closely to Champions League participation for top clubs. Despite being in the quarter-finals of the European tournament, Atlético Madrid, currently fifth in the league, must secure their sporting goals before determining their market ambitions.
However, journalist Rubén Uría suggested on his Twitch channel, well-connected with Atlético’s affairs, that the club might be interested in signing FC Barcelona’s star Robert Lewandowski, following his recent stellar performance against Atlético. Atlético has previously seized opportunities in the transfer market, notably acquiring David Villa in 2013 and winning the league, Luis Suárez in 2020 leading to another league victory, and Memphis Depay in January 2023, crucial in their Champions League progression. Lewandowski, aged 35, in his second season with Barcelona, has scored 20 goals, winning the Pichichi Trophy in his first season, with two more seasons left on his contract, albeit with conditions for the fourth season based on appearances.
Despite this, the two-time European Golden Shoe winner has expressed contentment both personally and professionally at Barcelona.
