Barcelona and other major clubs are eyeing Bundesliga talent Benjamin Sesko.
The 2023-24 season is nearing its final stretch, and clubs are already beginning to think about their plans for the upcoming 2024-25 season. However, Deco, the sporting director of FC Barcelona, insists that it is still too early to carry out any operations when asked about planning. He emphasizes that the current priority is to compete and exhaust all options in La Liga while also striving for success in the Champions League. Nevertheless, there are already reports circulating about the potential movements that clubs, including Barcelona, are preparing to bolster their respective squads, both in terms of incoming and outgoing players.
The Daily Mirror once again mentioned a name that has previously been on Barcelona’s radar, as well as that of other major clubs. This refers to a forward who has been excelling in the Bundesliga and has a release clause in his current contract valued at 50 million euros. Barcelona, always attentive to emerging young talents, continues to closely monitor the progress of Benjamin Sesko, a 20-year-old Slovenian forward playing for RB Leipzig, with whom he is contracted until 2028.
Sesko is a 1.96-meter tall center forward who has scored 11 goals and provided 2 assists in the 34 official matches he has played for the German team this season. In the Champions League, he posed a significant challenge to Real Madrid in the round of 16.
Fichajes.com warns, however, that the 50 million euros of his release clause is currently beyond Barcelona’s financial capabilities, at least until the upcoming summer transfer window. The same source also states that Sesko’s potential has not gone unnoticed by other major clubs such as Real Madrid, AC Milan, Chelsea, and Arsenal.
Sesko joined Austrian club Salzburg in 2019 from NK Domzale for a fee of 2.5 million euros. In 2022, he was transferred to Leipzig for 24 million euros.
