Pau Cubarsi potentially representing Spain in both the Euro Cup and Olympics has sparked concerns from Barcelona.
Pau Cubarsí will join the senior national team from Monday onwards, marking a significant leap for the 17-year-old center-back, who began this season with the U-17 national team and will now end it under the guidance of Luis de la Fuente, bypassing both the U-19 and U-21 levels. His elevation to the senior squad is also international, with expectations initially set for him to participate in the Summer Olympics. According to Ferran Martinez of Mundo Deportivo, his rapid development has led the Spanish Football Federation to consider him for the Euro Cup if he maintains this progression.
However, at Las Rozas Football City, there’s also a suggestion that despite his Euro participation, they envision him playing in the Olympics under Santi Denia, a scenario that Barcelona doesn’t favor, especially after Pedri’s recent experience. If Cubarsí were to participate in both the Euro Cup and Olympics, it would mean he’d be concentrated between the senior and Olympic teams from the end of the season with Barcelona until August, leaving him with minimal vacation time before returning to club duties, a scenario the Barcelona hierarchy views as excessive, particularly considering the physical toll it took on Pedri post-Olympics.
