There’s speculation that Aston Villa might discuss a permanent deal or a new loan for Clement Lenglet.
Aston Villa coach Unai Emery was resolute in the winter transfer window, refusing to let Clement Lenglet leave despite limited playing time, with the French defender now becoming an undisputed starter in the Premier League, sparking interest from Barcelona, which is pleased with his resurgence.
According to Gabriel Sans of Mundo Deportivo, Lenglet still has a contract with Barcelona, but their surplus of central defenders makes his continuity unlikely, leading to speculation that Aston Villa might negotiate his permanent transfer or another loan, allowing Barcelona to offload his wages, though the current loan does not include a purchase option.
Barcelona currently has Koundé, Araujo, Iñigo Martínez, Pau Cubarsí, who will remain in the first team, and Christensen, who is also playing as a midfielder, in the defensive lineup, with Lenglet’s return currently ruled out, though Barcelona will defer any decision until later, with Serie A clubs reportedly interested as well.
