PSG is showing strong interest in signing Frenkie de Jong this summer.
PSG is eager to settle the score with Frenkie de Jong. According to Roger Torello of Mundo Deportivo, with the departure of their top star, Kylian Mbappé, confirmed for next summer, the Parisian club aims to bolster its squad with top-level players to maintain its competitive edge. Besides keeping tabs on Gavi, as several French media outlets have revealed, one of their main targets is Frenkie de Jong. The French club was a major contender against Barça in 2019 to secure his services, but back then, the Blaugrana won the battle and secured his signing.
Five years later, and seizing the opportunity that the Dutch international might be open to offers, PSG is determined to try again to acquire Frenkie de Jong’s services. As reported by MD, Barça presented him with an offer three weeks ago, but the player has yet to respond to the proposal. The Blaugrana club maintains that in order for De Jong to stay, he must accept a contract renewal with reduced terms, in line with the new salary structure of the team. Otherwise, they are open to his departure, provided that the club receives an offer of €100 million. With the money PSG will save from Mbappé’s wages, the club led by Nasser Al-Kelahifi will be able to pursue De Jong’s signing and cover his current salary at Barça without any issues.
It remains to be seen if De Jong, should he choose to leave, opts to play for PSG or prefers to join the Premier League, where Tottenham has already shown interest in him, along with Manchester United – who tempted him two years ago – or Chelsea.
