Barça president, Joan Laporta, talked about the possibility of bringing Messi back with the Cules following the LaLiga championship.
The past few years have been challenging ones for all the Blaugranas, filled with historical lows and a lot of criticism.
However, we may finally be seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Last Sunday, Barcelona defeated city rivals Espanyol in a 4-2 away win and sealed their first LaLiga trophy in four years. Driven by the emotions of the victory, Joan Laporta celebrated with the players like few presidents ever do, showing once again his immense love for the club. He also took the opportunity to talk about a possible return of Argentine superstar, Lionel Messi to the Catalan giants.
It is no secret that Messi has not been living his best life while in Paris. During his time in the French capital, he has been booed by fans and received violent chants. Additionally, he was not able to help the Parisian team reach European glory through the Champions League. It seems as if Messi is living his final days at PSG, with his contract expiring in the following months, and is reportedly would be willing to come back to Barça on favorable terms for the Catalan side.
At the moment, Barcelona still has to wait on LaLiga to know exactly where they stand on the economic side of things. Nevertheless, Laporta has started to work his magic in order to bring back Messi.
“I have spoken with Leo to somehow explain the situation in which we were when I had to put the institution ahead of everything, including him, the best player in the world.” he affirmed while talking with TV3.
Additionally, Laporta knows that he may face harsh competition to sign Messi, especially from juicy economic offers coming from Saudi Arabia. Nonetheless, the president had a few things to say: “With all due respect to Saudi Arabia, which is doing a very good job, Barcelona is Barcelona. And Barcelona is his home. The club can compete against the whole world.” he continued.
As things stand, anything is possible for the Catalans going into the Summer. We may see quite a few players leaving the club or even Xavi making a systemic change to the formation. But in the back of all the Cules minds, the idea of seeing the number 10 and Messi once again in the Blaugrana colors will linger on. All the fans can do is pray that Laporta somehow manages to pull off this huge feat and let the biggest legend in club history get one last dance with Barça.
