After a rather disappointing second match of LaLiga that ended in a 1-1 draw against Athletic Club, Ronald Koeman, Antoine Griezmann and Memphis spoke with the press.
Here is what the Dutch manager had to say:
On how the match was played
“It was a great match. We didn’t play well at the beginning and they pressed us well. You have to know when you can play short. Afterwards we improved, we must highlight the attitude of the team. The draw is fair, they were a tough rival, I cannot be unhappy.”
Regarding Piqué’s injury
“The injury? I think it is not serious and I hope he will be available for next week. I have not spoken with Gerard, but if it is the same thing as before, it is not very serious. If he trained normally and had no discomfort, I am surprised that it happened.”
On Araujo’s disallowed goal
“The referee signaled a foul by Braithwaite, but there is also the VAR. If it is necessary, VAR has to step in and it didn’t happen. We accept it and that’s it.”
Regarding Memphis performance
“He has scored a great goal and had a chance for another. We must highlight the attitude of the team after being 1-0 down. Memphis has effectiveness, speed, strength. He is a great player, that’s why we signed him.”
This is Griezmann had to say:
On the match
“We have not played a good game. It was difficult from the beginning, We have been slower than usual. We have to improve a lot. It’s a point and we accept it, but we didn’t have a great game. They have pressured us very well and they have hurt us a lot. We have missed many passes.”
Regarding his performance
“I have to take more responsibilities. I try to help the team, whether in attack or defense, although sometimes things don’t go the way you want.”
On how Athletic played
“They press very well and we did not know how to get out of that pressure. In the end they got tired and we were able to control the ball a little better. We finished in better condition than them.”
After scoring his first goal for Barcelona, this is what Memphis had to say
Regarding the performance
“I am happy with the goal, but disappointed with the result. I want more. I am not satisfied with a tie. I have had a chance to score another goal and I have missed it.”
On what their takeaway should be
“We have to learn the lesson of this match and find solutions to get out of the pressure. We have to play more together. One point is better than nothing, but we can do better. We have fought until the last moment, but I want more.”
