La Vanguardia says Barcelona will present Ilaix Moriba with a contract renewal offer at a meeting next Tuesday. Both parties are confident an agreement will be reached.
Despite emerging as a regular first team player at the end of last season, his contract situation has sparked interest from abroad. La Vanguardia now say Barcelona already has a renewal offer on the table and a meeting will be held the coming Tuesday.
His current contract expires next summer, but Barcelona are already looking to extend that by three to four years. Both parties are confident of reaching an agreement. La Vanguardia and Mundo Deportivo say Ilaix Moriba’s only interest is to renew with Barcelona and play in the Catalan capital for many years to come.
Barcelona are aiming for a three year extension with a permanent place in the first team squad. That means he’ll also get a first team squad number, between 1-25. Up til now he’s played with 27 on the back, indicating that he’s also eligible to play for Barça B. That’s something he won’t be able to should he get number between 1 and 25.
Moriba’s road to more first team minutes looks clear now that Barcelona’s deal with Gini Wijnaldum has reportedly been hijacked by Paris Saint-Germain. He was already far up the pecking order in Ronald Koeman’s midfield, ahead of stars like Miralem Pjanic and Riqui Puig. He played a total of 14 league games. 10 as a substitute and 4 as a starter.
