For quite some time now Memphis Depay has been on the radar of Barça, however it seems that now more than ever the attacker could be on his way to the Camp Nou for next season as the player was in Barcelona last week looking at houses.
Today, Tuesday 4th of May, Mundo Deportivo reported that the Dutch forward was in Barcelona last week looking for a house. According to the Spanish news outlet the trip was a short one and only with that objective. Nevertheless, it shows great interest and motivation by the player.
Memphis Depay is a versatile player and could help Barça’s lack of goal scoring and production. Currently he has scored 19 goals in 35 matches in Lyon, proving his worth in attack. Additionally, he still is relatively young at only 27. However, possibly his biggest selling point, is the fact that Barça can sign him as a free agent. Depay finishes his contract with Lyon this Summer and is free to negotiate with any team he pleases. Taking into consideration the economical situation of the club and football as a whole, Memphis could prove to be a low risk, high reward situation.
Mundo Deportivo also adds to their report that Depay has also attracted the interest of other big clubs. These include Juventus, Inter Milan and even Atlético de Madrid. However the Dutch player only wants to play under Ronald Koeman at Barcelona. There is still a long way to go in this process, but it could end favorably for both parties.
